Right to Confidentiality
A patient’s medical records should be held in confidentiality at all times, and should not be discussed in an area where the information could be overheard. Additionally, a patient has the right to review their medical records for accuracy and to request an amendment if inaccuracies are discovered.
Right to File a Complaint or Grievance
A patient has the right to complain or file a grievance if the medical care provided by the facility did not meet the needs of the patient. There should be a formal grievance process in place in the hospital facility, and there should be ample opportunity for the patient and the hospital to come to a mutually satisfactory agreement if a dispute arises.
